Projects of ÚAM

Byzantine archaeology is relatively new branch of archaeology. Internationally it spread during the 1990's. In Czech archaeological community the Institute of Archaeology and Museology at Masaryk Univierzity in Brno is the first specialized institution focusing the topic. It appears in 2011 under the supervision of Dr. Věra Klontza who had begun to take courses on the topic and started 2 new archaeological projects of systemic research on Byzantine archaeology.

Research projects Oxa and Priniatikos Pyrgos in Crete are new source of topics concerning Byzantine archaeology of Aegean. At the Institute of Archaeology and Museology are lectures on Byzantine archaeology and culture available for students since 2012. New research activities in Crete are connected also to ancurrage students for practice in Byzantine archaeology. Also new project concerning of Southern Albanian sites is formed.
